Agreed, this is only a somewhat easy inference based on one election and a bunch of universities where people actually make discoveries, but what do you know!

california public schools fared well according to the times of london. this should have probably been limited to research universities as comprehensives and small liberal arts are missing and many of them are very strong institutions. i wonder how a map like this would look if it used US news & world report's ranking of the top 25 or 50 doctoral institutions.

Sad to say, the days when The Times could be considered a source of unbiased and accurate information are long gone. Better get your stats from a roulette wheel or drawing straws.

Hey, Cancergiggles, nevertheless, it is certain that these Unis are the most widely known, and, besides, those facts go with my theory, so I like them :)
As you say, it would be nice to see what USNews&Report report has to say about these, but I suspect pretty much in consonance: Durham and Chapell-Hill in NC, Austin in TX and some other town in VA would make it to the map. But those were in counties with a heavy Dem vote, anyway.
Our own dear Wake Forest, alas, is only among the 40 best or within the 100 best, but only in MBA terms. And, although nice campus, it is very homogeneous and quite boring.
