How dow I use MT?
Movable Type uses: Personal and Commercial.
My personal site consists of at least five different blogs, each dealing with an aspect of the blog which you can reference on the URI: 1) an about page, 2) the daily links, 3) a fitness blog that hasn't been integrated yet, 4) a photoblog, 5) the main blog per se.
Commercial use, which is not in production yet thanks to this license issues, consists of four blogs integrated into one: 1) general announcements, 2) project tracking (plog), 3) about page and 4) content links. However, this is the one that presents the most problems regarding authors: I am the administrator, my boss has to have access because he is the hierarchical superior even though he doesn't post at all, all the managers that report to him have to have access (6 in total), I had to grant access to other three people in the company that might want to check on the progress and usage of the tool from the inside - power issues, I think - and top complicate things, the 6 managers had to give access to their subordinates so they could post on behalf of the managers when they are not around.
And no, just using their bosses' password is not an option: Because of Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, everybody that logs in has to have privileges defined according to their responsibility, and we need an accurate log of people that post into the application.
That simply raised the count of people that have access to 18 authors, even though their access is purely administrative, and of course they don't even post. My role as admin is limited to news and help, leaving basically 6 managers with full post responsibility. Still, my license(were it to be approved) jumps from $300 for 5 to $600 for 20. What about distinction between authors and administrators in your license, and providing options to add users on a one by one basis?
Do a linear approach: First commercial license, $300 per 5 authors. Each additional author, $25 dollars, up to 17, and then the 20 authors license kicks in. You win, people win.
