Advice for people starting their own corporate blogs:
1. Talk to your users: The best tool remains unused if it lacks the consensus of the users.
2. Ask questions about usage: New ideas are intimidating on their complexity, and blogs are no exception. That said,m they are also a solution.
3. Find an easy development environment. You want to be able to make changes and moidifications without jeopardizing the availability of the blog, crucial on the first days.
4. Go for the most sophisticated features you can comfortably manage: Blogs are pretty much mature these days, thus requiring little in the art of invention yet demanding a lot of time in maintenance, specially ojnce feature creep starts to rear its ugly head. A MT installation with PHP and mySQL designed liek that from the beginning will save you a lot of time.
5. Backup the whole thing. Now. I mean it.
6. Review the progess with your users, asking for advice, needs and complains, but also check theiur success stories. The blog must be able to give a space for collaboration and sharing ideas, and the positive results are worth more if shared.
7. Document everything you do. You want people being able to go back and do their own, but also you have to have a solid unserstanding of the process that brought you here.
