Vuelta a Colombia
Reading Scotts' post about King of the Mountain, a book about the influence of cycling in the social fabric of Colombia, how it united the country and made evident the relationships between regions.
I remember reading a little article about it many years ago, when the originator of the Vuelta a Colombia passed away, and how it was part of the general effort to bring the country out of the immense pain that the Violencia had brought upon it.
The nation, of course, has not recovered from that: Drug trafficking became just one more of the facets by which the lack of credibility on the system manifested itself, responding to the incredible drug demand coming from the USA and based on the lack of future, or better, the perceived lack of possibilities that affects a huge section of the population. If there is no future, there is no moral compulsion.
Perhaps that is why this book might be worth reading, to identify a strategy that effectively worked, to focus on unifying processes and ideas, to elaborate a long term strategy of bringing everybody together, while respecting their own space.

Hi,
Ive been to Columbia a couple of times to see their "Vuelta a Colombia" there. Some of the mountain stages are awesome and unreal it's unbelievable to see what some of these Columbian riders can do on their bikes . I don't think Lance or any of the other so called Pros would have an ice-cube's chance in hell in keeping up with these guys, these riders are in a league of their own.
I'd like to see more coverage somewhere on this forgotten Tour
Thank you,
Brian

The race was great! It was challenging at the end though. But I made it through. I did the race to prove that I was strong enough to do it because my family didn't have any faith in me anymore.
