Inul Daratista, freedom fighter
This controversial performer has caused a scandal in Indoneisa, so it reports the Guardian:
One of the first to spring to Inul's defence was the former president and respected Muslim leader, Abdurrahman Wahid. As Mr Wahid is virtually blind, he had no visual frame of reference. His point was simply that Inul has a right to do what she does under the principle of free expression. Virtually every academic and "cultural expert" has since entered the fray, with the vast majority backing Inul.
Basically, this little J-Lo dances with new, non-approved movements that Muslim clerics find obscene, and the traditional Dangdut dancers denounce her evil ways, "You are either with us, or against us" sort of speech we have learned to love and understand. But much more profound seems to be the effect on society, in which the defiance of antiquated morals and new sexual expressions seems to motivate and originate an internal dialogue and further the evaluation of the country's assumptions and traditions, both from a social and gender structure related perspective.The existence of guilds of approved occupations and the immutability of the forms that they approve has long been known to stifle creativity and progress, as it is practically impossible to come up with new ideas in a changing environment when at the same time conforming to strict guidelines, designed to give stability and structure to a system ? worthy goals, but limiting nevertheless.
And this case, applied to societies where there is a very clear distinction between male and female power and authority, indicates how much disruptive any new expression can be - the presentation and defense made by Mr. Wahid centers on her freedom of expression. Like Izpapalotl, of the malamujer group, is proposing, women are using the assertion of their sexuality as expression:

This is typical for religion in general. I see parallels among fundamentalist christians in the USA that have even gone so far as to ban dancing altogether in some small communities.
I don't see islam at fault here, just the general prude values that religion teaches despite the silent perversion that goes on in the guise of righteousness. (aka, catholic molester priests, the quiet approval of man-boy relationships in muslim afghanistan, and endless storys about baptist ministers caught with their pants down doing all sorts of sins, such as masturbation while a hooker exposes her genitals to him, or having sex with their daughters and underage friends.
This is just sexy dancing...something Elvis Presley did 40 years ago, what is supposedly new here?

biar bagaimanapun, dia (si Inul) sudah mengumbar tubuhnya buat umum. Ga baik buat di liat apalagi buat kaum laki2, karna goyangannya mengumbar nafsu laki2.

Akhir'n kesampain juga saya lihat inul dr vcd yg kakak saya bawa dari Indonesia. Suami saya bilang Inul cocok untuk porn star dibandingkan dengan goyangan yang tidak menentu dan suara yg cuma pas-pasan.... khususnya diUSA dia bisa cari info Buttman, bisa bikin uang lebih banyak dan kamu benar Nul, jangan campur aduk agama dan art.
